Sacha Baron Cohen’s ‘Dictator’ Is A Snooki ‘Supporter’

Saturday, May 19th, 2012

“Welcome! Death to the West!” That is how the Dictator greeted MTV News’ Josh Horowitz when he sat down with him for an interview.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest infamous character is Admiral General Aladeen, a dictator who oppresses his people and dislikes democracy. In “The Dictator,” he’s mistaken for a refugee and taken under the wing of Zoey, played by Anna Faris. Aladeen’s misadventures in America lead to an array of hilarious culture clashes. Thus, the interview was nothing less than we’d expect ? offensive, outrageous and, yes, very, very funny.

After inquiring about Horowitz’s knowledge of the rapper Tupac Shakur, the Dictator reveals it was him who killed the MC. “He came to play at my birthday party and all the time he get on the microphone, and you know what he tell me?” Aladeen questioned. “You know what he tell me? He said, ‘Put your hands’ ? he ordered me! ? he ordered me to put my hands in the air and wave them like I just don’t care. Why would I, Dictator, wave my hands like I don’t care? I wave my hands like I do care, like this. I don’t do it like I don’t care. How dare he come to my palace and my birthday and tell me how to wave my hands like I don’t care? I care about the hands!”

Apparently someone forgot to inform the tyrant that it’s a figure of speech here in America.

“To put your hands in the air like you don’t care?” he continued. “You think Hitler put his hands in the air like he don’t care? It was a very careful gesture that he did. I won’t do it here. And this Biggie Smalls, he then performed the next night for my weekend of birthday. That fat bastard ate all of the buffet. It cost over 120 Euros per head.”

When our correspondent noted that his phrase is not respectful to the dead, the admiral general replied, “It’s not respectful to the people who wanted to eat the buffet.”

Note to self: Eat before heading to Aladeen’s palace. Although, it’s possible not much eating will take place on a trip to his home. Shortly after assuring Horowitz he has nothing to worry about and sliding a gun on the table between them, he talked of his latest tryst with reality-TV star Kim Kardashian.

“I’ve had the opportunity to meet a lot of [stars in America] that come to the palace and negotiate with the pimps,” he said. “Kim Kardashian, she came two weeks ago. I negotiated with her pimp, who is also her mother. Three-hundred-thousand dollars for one hour ? not bad. Good rate.”

But Kardashian isn’t the only American entertainer the Dictator is fond of. He happens to enjoy Snooki and has a list of movies he’s enjoyed ? one of which is definitely in the wrong category.

“I am a huge supporter of your Snooki,” he said. “I find him a very funny, little, orange man. And we have many of your sci-fi and fantasy films like ‘Transformers’ or ‘Harry Potter’ or ‘Schindler’s List.’ “

Check out everything we’ve got on “The Dictator.”

will.i.am ‘Still Has That Fire’ On ‘This Is Love,’ Eva Simons Says

Saturday, May 19th, 2012

For his song “This Is Love,” will.i.am enlisted Dutch singer Eva Simons to add some powerhouse vocals to the raging party track. The searing dance production is highlighted by Simons’ diva-tude as her voice soars over will’s creation, full of big chants, bumping beats and dirty synths.

Simons had already proved she had hook potential appearing on Afrojack’s 2010 dance-floor anthem “Take Over Control,” and given will’s history of enlisting female pop singers to add a bit of sexy flair to his songs, Simons was a perfect muse to help shape his latest dance-pop track.

“He is super creative, and we kind of have the same energy: We can’t sit still. We were in the studio, and he had this track,” Simons recalled to MTV News about working with the Black Eyed Peas mastermind. “And he’s like, ‘Yo, Eva, would you like to do this song with me?’ And we had been recording a couple tracks before, so he knows what I’m capable of and he trusts me, and we don’t really know each other for that long, but he trusts me.

“I recorded it,” she continued. “And he mixes it straight away from his laptop … and it’s done. That’s so beautiful ? not only is he super creative and knows what he wants, but he also sees when other people are creative as well. He’s not afraid to collaborate.”

This particular collaboration also included Swedish House Mafia’s Steve Angello. “It’s really a club-banger,” Simons said, adding that will included “some piano intro in there and violins. … He’s always creative. It doesn’t [just] work for the clubs, it works for the radio, it’ll also work on a big festival, like him on the piano, some strings, some live drums.”

will and Simons recently shot a video for the track, and she had this tease for fans when asked to give some hints: “Fireworks. Just like, ‘What world is this? Like, where are we?’ and ‘What season is this?’ ” she said. “It’s mad. It’s pretty awesome.”

Much of that awesomeness, she adds, stems from will directing the clip himself. “I’m just surprised. I’m not surprised, actually, ’cause that’s him,” she said. “He is also a super-geek. I’m a super-geek. I love technology, and he was like, he was directing the video and he was doing the motion-control of the camera and everything. He knows his stuff. It was pretty awesome to see.”

Simons continued that it was refreshing to see that even with all his years in the industry, he still loves to do it. “I just admire him,” she said. “After all those years he still has that fire, and that’s just beautiful. But I feel like ? ’cause I was big fan of the Black Eyed Peas, and I still am ? and he seems like he’s the same guy still that I see before.”

Their song is expected to appear on will’s long-teased solo album, #willpower, which also features Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Mick Jagger and Nicole Scherzinger. No release date has been set for the album.

Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin, Alec Baldwin Give Props To Obama On Same-Sex Marriage

Saturday, May 19th, 2012

While his likely opponent in the fall presidential contest, Mitt Romney, dug in his heels and doubled down on his opposition to same-sex marriage, President Obama continued to earn praise from the entertainment community for his historic support of gay marriage.? After hearing from stars including? Neil Patrick Harris, Ellen DeGeneres, “Modern Family” star Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Kim Kardashian on Wednesday, the list of well-wishers grew to include everyone from Lady Gaga to hip-hop impresario Russell Simmons, Alec Baldwin and political blogger Meghan McCain.

“Obama, congratulations on being the first sitting president to support marriage equality,” tweeted Gaga. “Feels like the future, and not the past. #NoFear.” Hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons simply said “thank you,” and singer Michelle Branch gave it a rousing, “YAY Obama!! #EqualityForAll.”

Frequent “Chelsea Lately” panelist and out comedian Ross Matthews could hardly contain his excitement, writing, “OMG, it’s official! Obama becomes 1st president to support gay marriage!!! Historic day!” Meanwhile, another out TV personality, Bravo boss and talk show host Andy Cohen, shouted, “THANK YOU MR. PRESIDENT.”

Singer Ricky Martin offered his props as well, saying, “I applaud President @barackobama for affirming that ALL Americans should enjoy equal rights. Historic!”

CNN talker Piers Morgan called it, “One small step for him … one giant leap for mankind,” while comedian/actress Sandra Bernhard offered up the poetic bon mot, “Viva Obama who has just endorsed gay marriage. Right on time drop a dime blow your mind.”

“It Gets Better” founder and “Savage Love” columnist Dan Savage urged action on the back of Obama’s announcement, saying, “Gay people better get out there and support the president. If he loses in November, we’ll be blamed.”

“30 Rock” star Alec Baldwin kept is brief with, “Obama gets it right on gay marriage. Bravo,” out blogger Perez Hilton dubbed the announcement, “better late than never” and singer Josh Groban said it was just “historic.”

Twitter master comedian Patton Oswalt took the opportunity to have fun with the Obama news in a series of tweets about his upcoming (fake) gay marriage. “Oh my God — Seal Team Six just broke down my front door and are forcing me to marry @stephenfry! DAMN YOU, OBAMA!!!!!!” That was followed by some more good news in the form of, “Well, I’m now married to @stephenfry. Ceremony was charming, but watching Seal Team Six fight over the bouquet was f—ing INTENSE.” Funnyman Michael Ian Black was in a joking mood as well, taunting, “Hey Obama, if you love gay marriage so much, why don’t you marry it?”

And in keeping with her maverick streak (not to be confused with her dad’s), political blogger Meghan McCain opined, “Even though he did it a little late under political pressure — very happy to hear the President came out in support of gay marriage.” What do you think of President Obama’s support of gay marriage? Lady Gaga Under Fire After ‘PopStarsDontEat’ Comment

Saturday, May 19th, 2012

What was clearly intended as a jokey tweet lamenting the rigorous diet and exercise routine she is currently undertaking to prepare for her 110-date Born This Way Ball has put Lady Gaga in the crosshairs of some angry fans and eating-disorder organizations. On Tuesday, the pop star tweeted, “Just killed back to back spin classes. Eating a salad dreaming of a cheeseburger #PopSingersDontEat #IWasBornThisWay.” Some fans thought the tweet wasn’t exactly keeping with the pop star’s “You’re perfect the way you are” message and that her choice of the “#PopStarsDontEat” hashtag could be misinterpreted as encouraging eating disorders because she posits herself as a role model to her fans.

The National Eating Disorder Association even weighed in, hitting its own Twitter account to write, “Huh? This is the same person who recently implored girls to stop dieting?”

MTV Buzzworthy has an Open Letter To Lady Gaga While it seems clear that Gaga was joking ? who hasn’t dove into a salad wishing it was something else? ? the comment does appear out of character for the star, who has spoken publicly about her own struggles with an eating disorder as a teen. Using that particular hashtag might have been a poor choice, but it’s safe to say Lady Gaga wasn’t knowingly making light of eating disorders ? and, otherwise, wasn’t she mostly just encouraging exercise and healthy eating? Gaga tweets often about all sort of less-than-healthful habits, from drinking (“after 12 margaritas my phone was confiscated”) to, well, other things (“princess xena of xanaxland has lil secrets in her inbox”). Why she is being scrutinized for making an observation about something we already know ? that celebrities engage in intense fitness regimens to meet the unrealistic expectations placed on their appearance ? is kind of a mystery. But, you know, totally appropriate and necessary reason for outrage, everyone. Sound off on Gaga’s #PopSingersDontEat tweet in the comments below!

Oliver Cooper Wants You To Help Make Him The ‘Best Onscreen Dirtbag’

Saturday, May 19th, 2012

Hooray for Movie Awards season and the cutthroat competition between this year’s very deserving group of nominees! And although the majority of the nominations were snagged by some popular wizards, bridesmaids and tributes, there is plenty of Movie Awards love and Golden Popcorn to go around. Kinda.

Speaking of Movie Awards love, we have to give it up to first-time nominee Oliver Cooper for putting together this very clever campaign video and Facebook page.

“These are the nominees for Best Onscreen Dirtbag, but only one of them has a proven track record as a douchebag,” the ad begins. “He’s been called a crude, pushy creep, and ‘the most annoying movie character since Jar Jar Binks.’”

MTV News recently caught up with the Best Onscreen Dirtbag nominee to discuss his creative campaign efforts.

“I’m stoked. I’m putting all my hours in the campaign to win this Dirtbag award,” Cooper said. “My strategy is to talk to as many people as I can to win this thing. I’m traveling across the country,” he joked. “We don’t have much money right now, I’m taking Greyhound buses to different cities telling people why I should win.”

The “Project X” star went on to say that he’s going for strong word of mouth, as well as a few sympathy votes.

“We’re going to put up more videos and hopefully catch a following, get people onboard, who liked the movie or hated me,” he said. “There are probably more people that hated me.”

“I’m trying to gain as much weight, let myself go as much as possible,” he continued, speaking to how he’s getting ready for his big night on June 3. “I want people to really think of me as disgusting. ‘God that guy is despicable. How can he possibly be in movies?’”

Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote for your favorite flicks now! The 21st annual MTV Movie Awards air live Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET.
