Should Justin Bieber Remake ‘Fear’? Reese Witherspoon Weighs In!

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

A few weeks back, a rumor hit the Internet that Justin Bieber wanted to remake “Fear,” his pal Mark Wahlberg’s classic thriller. Being that Wahlberg and Bieber already have a project in the works, it wouldn’t be too off base for the teen star to try his hand at the creepy film that follows a young man (Walhberg) who becomes obsessed with his teen girlfriend (Reese Witherspoon) and goes on a dangerous rampage when the romance turns sour.

Witherspoon will sit down with MTV News on Tuesday (January 31) for an exclusive interview and premiere of a previously unseen clip from her upcoming film, “This Means War.” The special, “MTV First: This Means War,” will air at 7:56 p.m. ET on MTV and MTV.com. And, during that chat, she has an interesting reaction to the news that her film may get a new-millennium remake.

“Oh, really? Fine, great. That’d be cool. Would he be playing me, or is he playing Mark Wahlberg?” she wondered. “Is it like a girl who harasses the family, like a stalker who can’t leave him alone? That would be good, right? I mean girls get crazy about him. Yeah, he’s very talented.”

Much like MTV First: Reese Witherspoon” hits MTV on Tuesday at 7:56 p.m. ET, check out Reese’s first-ever, totally adorable MTV interview, when she opened up in 1991 at the age of 14 about what drew her to Hollywood. And make sure to stick with Reese’s chat when it moves to MTV.com after an exclusive clip premieres Tuesday on MTV!

Chris Brown ‘This Generation’s Michael Jackson,’ Duo Say

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

The Underdogs are no strangers to hitmaking. For the production/songwriting duo of Harvey Mason Jr. and Damon Thomas ? who have crafted songs for Britney Spears, BeyoncĂ© and Mary J. Blige ? their latest, Chris Brown’s “Turn Up the Music,” could be their biggest hit yet.

It isn’t their first song with Breezy ? the duo worked on his 2007 ballad “Take You Down” and his Jordin Sparks duet “No Air” ? but on “Turn Up the Music,” the first single from his fifth solo album, Fortune, they take things to new sonic heights.

“He’s so well-rounded, so versatile, he can really cover anything. He kills the uptempos, he can do the urban uptempo records, he could do the ballads, he could do the pop songs. You can really come to him with any record that you think is that hot,” Mason told MTV News. “He is, for me right now and for many people, the ultimate artist. He’s kinda this generation’s Michael Jackson, if you will.”

On “Turn Up the Music,” which will be on sale digitally February 14 on iTunes, the Underdogs laced Breezy with a super-charged dance groove in a similar vein to last year’s hit “Yeah 3x.” For Mason and Thomas, the inspiration for this record came from Brown’s moves on the dance floor. “The inspiration was really him as an artist, visualizing how he dances and how he performs, and giving him something to match that energy,” Mason said.

This is the first taste we get from Breezy’s upcoming Fortune, a companion album to 2011′s F.A.M.E., and based on what they’ve already heard, the Underdogs expect some big things for the new album. “The Fortune record is F.A.M.E to the next level,” Mason described. “Similar material, but he’s really being innovative with some of the music that you haven’t heard before, taking pieces of other genres and integrating them into pop and R&B, which I think is really cool. Vocally, he sounds amazing; he’s really, really coming into his own as a singer.”

Thomas added: “The only way I can describe Chris and what he’s doin’ with this record that he’s making is that he’s this generation’s Michael [Jackson].”

Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ ‘Sounds Very Familiar’ To Madonna

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

There was a hot debate raging about 12 months ago when Lady Gaga dropped her song “Born This Way,” with people questioning whether the song sounds too much like Madonna’s 1980s hit “Express Yourself.”

As the discussion went viral, fans, critics and even Lady Gaga herself weighed in on it. Now, as Madge preps the release of her next album, M.D.N.A., and her film “W.E.,” she’s finally weighing in on the controversy. Madonna, known for her curt, pithy responses when asked about anyone who might take a cue or two from her playbook, sat down with ABC News recently and had some choice words for pop’s latest princess.

“I certainly think she references me a lot in her work. And sometimes I think it’s amusing and flattering and well-done,” she explained of her onetime “Saturday Night Live” co-star. “When I heard ['Born This Way'] on the radio … I said, ‘that sounds very familiar’ … It felt reductive.”

When asked if “reductive” was good or bad, Madonna replied, “Look it up.”

The Queen of Pop did call Gaga “a very talented artist” and explained that she thinks that she’s making a “statement about taking something that was in the Zeitgeist, you know, 20 years ago and turning it inside out and reinterpreting it.”

Madonna also addressed her apparent penchant for kissing female pop stars. She recently made headlines when her “Gimme All Your Luvin” cohort Nicki Minaj tweeted that Madge had kissed her on the set of her video.

In true Madonna fashion, she brushed it off, saying, “It was her birthday. I gave her a birthday kiss. No tongue!”

Of course, Nicki is not the first pop star Madonna has locked lips with. Back in 2003, Madge shared kisses on the VMA stage with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. “Nice moment, good kisser. Cool,” she remarked of Spears. When asked if she would kiss Spears again, she replied, “No, I already did it. I don’t like to repeat myself.”

For those who may have missed the “Nightline” interview on Thursday, it will air on Friday night (January 13) on “20/20.”

Rick Ross Birthday Bash Boasts Dr. Dre, Diddy

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

MIAMI ? Rick Ross cemented a weekend of jet-set partying for his 36th birthday in ultimate style Sunday night at his home base in Miami, surrounded by some of his closest friends and thousands of fans. Club Amnesia was packed wall to wall with almost no wiggle room, filled with hip-hop heavyweights and club revelers watching closely, competing to get a shot of the action.

Ross ascended from a chauffeur-driven black Maybach shortly after 1 a.m. with companion DJ Khaled by his side. Decked out in his signature coconut-colored silk threads, the hefty MC was swiftly ushered by his Maybach Music entourage inside the venue.

Fans cheered, “Happy birthday, boss,” as an elated Ross made his way to Amnesia’s top-level VIP area, where dozens of music celebrities ? including producer/singer Sean Garrett, actor Evan Ross and powerhouse producer Dr. Dre ? were waiting in the wings for his arrival. Dre was easily the night’s most-talked-about guest, as the sight of him and Ross together confirmed their union after being spotted hanging out together in Miami recently.

Soon after Ross, the celebrity arrivals began to flow in sync with the hundreds of bottles of Moet Rose champagne and Ciroc vodka that were delivered to his seating area. Party host Diddy showed up soon after with an entourage consisting of new Bad Boy artist French Montana, Cassie and his son Justin. Minutes later, Wiz Khalifa and girlfriend Amber Rose joined the party.

“This is your night!” Diddy shouted at Ross, alongside a grinning Khalifa by his side. Ross, with Dre directly behind him, raised a glass filled with pink bubbly.

As the night continued full steam, other hip-hop artists including the LOX, upstart Chicago crew L.E.P. and singer the Dream separately made their way to greet the Bawse. At one point, there were whispers that Young Money superstar Drake was also present in the building, but the Canadian MC was nowhere to be seen.

One of the most-touching moments of the night was a snapshot of Ross and former business manager and Poe Boy head E-Class exchanging hugs and pounds. Class had been a longtime associate of Rozay since his earlier days, until the two had a recent falling out that ended their business relationship.

Wrapping up the night in traditional fashion, Ross and his MMG family exited the empty-bottle-strewn VIP area and made their way to the stage for an impromptu performance. Ross gave the audience their money’s worth, performing hit after hit from his war chest of club anthems.

“They say I’m getting money, must be Illuminati/ Talking to the Holy Ghost, in my Bugatti,” Ross rapped on the track “Holy Ghost” off his Rich Forever mixtape. “He knockin’ on the door, don’t let the devil iiiinnn.”

On this night, the larger-than-life MC had his way, no doubt to be blessed with another banner year.

Lady Gaga Announces Born This Way Foundation Launch

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation will launch February 29 with a fete at Harvard University, the singer and her mother and co-founder, Cynthia Germanotta, announced in a statement on Thursday (January 19). BTWF was created to promote youth empowerment and equality by encouraging self-confidence and well-being and bringing bullying to an end.

Joining the pop star at Sanders Theatre will be her partners in the endeavor: Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet and Society, the MacArthur Foundation and the California Endowment.

Gaga has long been a staunch supporter of anti-bullying legislation, reportedly meeting with President Obama to discuss the topic in September and visiting the White House in early December to discuss the issue with administration officials. She dedicated her performance of “Hair” at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas to Jamey Rodemeyer, a 14-year-old fan who took his own life after years of anti-gay harassment. And last year, Gaga topped DoSomething.org’s list of the most charitable celebrities, in part for her work on behalf of gay rights causes.

“My daughter’s foundation was born out of her passion to create a better world where people are kinder and nicer to one another and are accepted for who they are, regardless of how different they may be,” Germanotta said. “She has experienced many of the struggles that our youth encounter today, and identifies with the lasting effects they can have without proper support. Together, we look forward to creating a new movement that will engage and empower youth and accept them as valuable members of our society.”

The Mother Monster’s commitment to the gay community was again recognized Thursday (January 19) with a nomination for Outstanding Music Artist at the GLAAD Media Awards. The awards recognize fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the LGBT community across all media. In December, the diva was recognized with the Hero Award by the Trevor Project, a nonprofit organization that offers suicide-prevention services to LGBT youth.

During her acceptance speech at Trevor Project Live, Gaga touched on her wishes to someday make bullying a hate crime. “I hope that we can acknowledge all together that where this needs to begin is in the schools,” Gaga said. “I want my fans and people all over the world to know that there’s always somebody that’s listening. But I want them to know they’re listening before it gets too late.”
