‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ Trailer: Tom Cruise On The Run!

Monday, October 31st, 2011

Ethan Hunt’s mission, should he choose to accept it, is to go rogue.

The latest — and most insightful — “Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol” trailer hit the web courtesy of Yahoo! Trailers. And, for those of us who are excited for this movie for its whole cast instead of just Tom Cruise’s continued participation, this teaser also gives the best look at the IMF team yet. It looks like they’re going to have some interesting chemistry.

It was obvious from earlier trailers that Jeremy Renner’s character Brandt is more than meets the eye (this isn’t a stretch: they have an exchange where Hunt asks him who he is really and Brandt replies, “We all have our secrets”), but this preview of the movie gives a better sense of the tension between the two IMF agents.

Simon Pegg’s Benji and Paula Patton’s Jane are clearly on the side of Team Hunt, but Brandt looks like he’s likely to cause a good deal of trouble for the group. And Josh Holloway’s Trevor Hanaway looks like he’s up to absolutely no good in “Ghost Protocol.” So who can Hunt trust this time around?

In case you missed the previous trailer for this film, Hunt and the rest of the IMF unit are set up on a mission in Moscow, and the Russian government considers the unexpected attack an act of war. The President initiates a black operation called “ghost protocol” and disavows the entire IMF force. It’s up to Hunt to organize his team and find Brij Nath (Anil Kapoor), an intelligence agent with knowledge of the Moscow attack and the targeting of IMF.

Also, let’s take a brief moment of silence for Tom Wilkinson’s seemingly deceased IMF leader, may he rest in peace away from all the craziness of a secret agent’s lifestyle.

Florence And The Machine Return With ‘Enormous’ Ceremonials

Monday, October 31st, 2011

Florence Welch circled the globe in support of Lungs, the breakout debut that transformed her from an unknown Brit into an internationally famous performer, a fashion icon and a rather unwilling superstar.

Of course, along the way, she also managed to pick up a few souvenirs.

“I have some chainmail at home; it’s a good look,” she laughed. “We got a sword as well, when we were in Glasgow once. There was a sign in a store that said ‘Sword Sale, 30 Percent Off.’ How could you resist? It was a sale.”

We mention all that not because the image of Welch clutching a broadsword is sort of amazing, but to point out the whirlwind two years that followed Lungs‘ release ? and the fact that they were actually tame in comparison to the four years that preceded it. Welch recorded her debut whenever ? and wherever ? she could, working with a handful of different producers in fits and starts. The reason was largely economic, of course, a problem she didn’t face with the follow-up, Ceremonials, out in the U.S. on Tuesday. So when she finally wrapped up promotion behind her first album, she knew exactly where she wanted to record her new one ? and who she wanted to do it with.

“The first album, what I learned, for better or for worse, it was done over from the ages of 17-22, with a couple of different producers. Some of it was recorded in an old swimming pool, some of it was recorded in a synagogue ? it kind of was all over the place,” Welch told MTV News. “And that made it the record it is, but for this one, I was very clear in the idea that I had of wanting to make something that sounded like a whole; so it had to be one producer, one place, one period of time to make it a body of work.”

Produced entirely by Paul Epworth (whose work on Adele’s 21 is probably playing on a radio near you right now), Welch and the Machine crafted an album that, though all over the place lyrically, is unified by one common theme: an all-encompassing, soul-engorging enormity ? one that’s large enough to give even Welch pause.

“They’re all pretty big,” she laughed. “They all came out quite big. I was slightly worried, because I was like, ‘All the sounds are enormous on this record.’ ”

Will you check out Florence’s sophomore album? Let us know in the comments!

Lady Gaga ‘Marries The Night’ In India

Monday, October 31st, 2011

Back in April, Lady Gaga and the world of Indian pop culture kicked off their love affair when Indian composers Salim-Sulaiman produced a remix of Gaga’s smash “Born This Way.” And Gaga kept the fire burning during a recent trek to the country.

On Sunday night at a Formula One afterparty in Greater Noida, Gaga performed a Bollywood version of her Born This Way single “Marry the Night,” according to Aceshowbiz.com.

“I feel like I’ve waited a long time to come here. And I feel very grateful,” she told the excited crowd at the party. “For the first time ever, I’m going to sing ‘Marry the Night.’ ”

Gaga sat at a piano and played a slowed-down version of the song, accompanied by a sitar. Before the show, in a chat with NDTV in New Delhi, Gaga described it as “a performance that is unique and specific just for India.”

In addition to performing the song live for the first time, she had another treat for her Indian fans, revealing for the first time some new details about her video for “Marry the Night.”

“Well, I can share exclusively with you that I directed this video myself. So this is my first directorial debut,” she told NDTV. Until now, she has co-directed with her Haus of Gaga and her creative director Laurieann Gibson.

“But it has been a wonderful experience. I worked alongside director of photography Darius Khondji, who is an absolutely amazing DP, and I worked with Gideon Ponte, who is an incredible art director,” she explained. “So I’m looking forward to sharing this autobiographical video with the world. I’m very excited. It’s my favorite song on the album.”

As for what’s next for Gaga and India, she tweeted out several photos of herself around town, with the message, “Screw Hollywood. It’s all about Bollywood.”

During her interview, she shared that she hasn’t ruled out some Bollywood-themed projects, explaining, “There’s nothing in the works right now, but I love the culture here and I love Bollywood so who knows?”

‘Breaking Dawn’ Experts Reveal ‘MTV First’ Wish List

Monday, October 31st, 2011

We can hardly contain our “Twilight”-obsessed excitement for Thursday, November 3, at 7:56 p.m. ET when we will premiere a never-before-released clip from the hugely anticipated “Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ live on-air, to be introduced by megastars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.

This extra-special event is “MTV First: Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” which is an opportunity for us to provide our fellow “Twilight” fans with some insider excitement surrounding the impending release of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1,” due November 18, and catch up with the three actors following the clip’s debut on MTV.com.

To get a feel for what members of the “Twilight” fandom hope to hear or see next week, MTV News sought out the expertise of Laura Byrne-Cristiano, who owns TwilightLexicon.com; Kara Hassell of TwilightersAnonymous.com; and Kallie Mathews from TwilightSeriesTheories.com.

In the exclusive clip, Byrne-Cristiano and Mathews hope to see some reactions to Bella’s pregnancy from the wolf pack, while Hassell hopes more humans are involved.

“I love the Cullens and werewolves as much as the next ‘Twilight’ fan, but I’m dying to see a little snark from Charlie Swan (Billy Burke) or Jessica Stanley (Anna Kendrick),” Hassell said.

The ladies are also eager to see the dynamic between Stewart, Pattinson and Lautner during the MTV.com Q&A following the premiere of the clip.

“I hope and expect to see some great chemistry and a lot of comedy from the three,” Hassell said. “We’ve seen them individually in interviews recently, but it’s always a whole different ballgame when they are all together.”

“I would really love to hear them discuss acting together, i.e. when Jacob finds out that Bella is preggers,” Mathews added. “And what it was like to play off of each other’s emotions in such an intense scene.”

“[I would like to know] what scene are they the proudest of that they took part in,” Byrne-Cristiano said. “In terms of end result on film.”

Continuing with the theme of patiently waiting and eager anticipation, how are our dedicated experts preparing for the film’s opening day and making the wait less painful?

“I’m so busy grabbing every interview and news story. It takes my mind off of it,” Byrne-Cristiano said. “Plus, we are planning this big private movie showing for our fans in the Nashville area, so I’ve been really busy with that.”

“I have re-watched each of the first three films, and I have the soundtracks on repeat in my car!” Hassell admitted.

“I am planning to be at the premiere with the rest of the fans!” Mathews said. “We are also giving away a ton of ‘Twilight’ merchandise at TwilightSeriesTheories.com leading up to the release. I will stay very busy!”

Don’t forget: Fans can get in on our interviews with Stewart, Pattinson and Lautner by submitting video or text questions via MTV.com or Twitter (using @MTVNews, plus the hashtags #AskTwilight and #MTVFirst).

Be sure to tune in to “MTV First: Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” which kicks off Thursday, November 3, on MTV at 7:56 p.m, followed by a Q&A with Kristen, Rob and Taylor on MTV.com!
